Iridium
project (Motorola)
IIC provided approximately sixty full time consultants,
including systems engineers, mathematicians, satellite engineers,
and system administrators for the Iridium project. This
project involved the launch and management of a network
of satellites to provide worldwide telecommunications capabilities
for a wide range of devices including cell phones, pagers,
and pay phones. IIC's participation included the design,
development, testing, and implementation of software for
system planning, system resource monitoring, payload support,
satellite management, and message scheduling (for pagers).
IIC also provided consultants with specific expertise in
a number of areas of space operations including orbital
analysis, space vehicle link operations, space vehicle engineering,
and satellite maintenance. IIC was specifically involved
in:
Software
development and support

Ground station software development, testing, integration,
and CM processes

Development of object-oriented code for payload support
(tens of thousands of lines of code)

Provision of G3 consultants to develop artificial intelligence
software

Development of CM/CMM code and management of Clearcase/Clearquest
modules.

Administration of the initial installation rollout
of Gateway software in Brazil, China, Russia, Italy,
and the U.S.

Development and testing of the payload software

Development of the Iridium pager system
-
Support for the SEI process and improvements resulting
in achievement of level 3+

Development of the Iridium Earth terminal software
(currently used in the daily operations of the Iridium
Constellation)

Supplied project managers including the chairs of the
quality and defects team and the code review team

Supplied business analysts to help develop the BSCS
and MPS software
Space
operations

Supplied over 100 people in support of the Iridium
Master Control System

Provided Space Vehicle Link Operators to manage the
70 satellite constellation at Boeing and Intelsat
-
Performed launch analysis and space vehicle placement
analysis when new satellites were launched.

Provided Space Vehicle Engineers to resolve satellite-related
problems such as anomalies, antenna issues, batteries,
etc.

Provided Orbital Analysts to support vehicle placement,
satellite maneuvers, and trajectory issue resolution
and to manage overall constellation operations

Supplied Antenna Engineers to manage all power issues
for the constellation

Converted the entire master control facility at Iridium
from Novell to Windows NT

Provided systems administration for Sun enterprise
systems, as well as the Windows NT systems supporting
the master control system

Developed and supported network systems
IIC is currently providing consultants who
are involved in developing Telecom Network Performance Management
software (utilizing data from satellites and network switches)
and developing additional software to add functionality
to the system.
