A self-service business intelligence tool that negated the need for IT personnel involvement for day to day database operations.

Background

Abbott Nutrition was facing difficulty maintaining and operating a database environment which required the support of trained IT professionals at all times. Through a competitive bid RFP, Indotronix was selected to create a self-service Business Intelligence tool that would enable users to create and maintain data tables on their own, eliminating the need for IT supervision while uploading newly created tables and merging with existing data tables.

Challenges

Going into the project, some concerns included:

  • The shortage of trained professionals to operate the available BI tool
  • Costs incurred in hiring trained professionals to operate the tool
  • The need for a self-service BI tool that anyone could use and generate reports from

Objectives

The development objective was to create a tool that would enable users to create and maintain data tables on their own, eliminating the need for IT supervision while uploading newly created tables and merging with existing data tables.

Services Provided

After conducting a detailed analysis of the current systems, Indotronix architected, designed and delivered a solution in the form of a customized BI application based on a .Net platform developed within the framework of Abbott’s Teradata data warehouse environment. The migration and deployment was handled by Abbott, with close and continuous communication coming from the Indotronix team.

As part of the implementation process, the Indotonix team used both manual and automated testing techniques to ensure developers received immediate feedback when new code impacted existing functionality or caused challenges for integration with other project development teams.  After each version was deployed, tested, and reviewed, the functionality was presented to the client for their acceptance testing. Ultimately, Indotronix’s performance met all contractual requirements and exceeded most price requirements to the client’s benefit.

The end tool was integrated with the existing enterprise ecosystem, allowing the users to operate it seamlessly without any learning curve.
